So every single fairy/magical creature in Once Upon a Time is a POC.
I appreciate the amount of POCs in the series, since fantasy is notoriously bad about that sort of thing, but it’s weird considering the Magical Negro stereotype that still persists in our culture from time to time. I’ve only just started the Mirror’s episode in which I assume he is given real characterization, but the only magical creature featured that was not black is Rumpelstiltskin, and we learn he was originally a man. (And the Dark One before that but it’s safe to assume that he was originally a man as well.) In the background of the first episode we see non-white characters at the wedding, and I doubt they were all fae. They’re slowly developing the world, which I like the little bits and bites we get. I’m glad they’re focusing on the Mirror this week.
