I realize, as I study the information needs of the queer community, that I treat being a librarian as I treat all other aspects of my life: as an extension of my activism.

And why shouldn’t I? ALA believes in information access to all, is opposed to censorship, and even has a helpful guide for getting around the PATRIOT Act and other such anti-privacy acts. These are all the things I want to fight for. If I do it by being part of a system that attempts to circumvent attacks on our personal freedoms, then I am on the right track.
